Oracle Data Guard 23ai New Features – Part 1

A number of new database fixed V$ views have been added in Oracle Data Guard 23ai that are very useful in monitoring an Oracle Data Guard environment.

V$DG_BROKER_CONFIG view provides an overall summary of an Oracle Data Guard broker configuration.

The view provides the similar information which the Data Guard BrokerSHOW CONFIGURATION command provided. It provides a view of the entire Oracle Data Guard broker configuration while connected to any database which is a part of the configuration.

Note the definition of the V$DG_BROKER_CONFIG view as it existed in Oracle 19c.

In Oracle Database 23ai, a number of additional columns have been added to the V$DG_BROKER_CONFIG view like SWITCHOVER_READY, FAILOVER_READY, CURRENT_STATE etc.

SQL> select database, dataguard_role, status, severity, switchover_ready, failover_ready, transport_mode
from v$dg_broker_config;

DATABASE DATAGUARD_ROLE STATUS SEVERITY SWITCHOVER_READY FAILOVER_READY TRANSPORT_MODE
___________ ___________________ _________ ___________ ___________________ _________________ _________________
orcl PRIMARY 0 SUCCESS YES UNKNOWN -N/A-
orcl_sb PHYSICAL STANDBY 0 SUCCESS YES YES ASYNC

The V$DG_BROKER_PROPERTY view provides information about the entire Data Guard configuration at both the individual member level as well as the top level configuration level.

SQL> select member,instance,DATAGUARD_ROLE,PROPERTY, value from  V$DG_BROKER_PROPERTY;

V$DG_BROKER_ROLE_CHANGE displays information about the last ten role changes across a Data Guard broker configuration.

We can see when was the last time a Data Guard Switchover and Failover has been performed as well as information about the start and end time of the role change operations.

The Data Guard switchover in Oracle Database 23ai now shows additional information about stages in the switchover (like timestamp of various stages in the role change).
