The 11g management agent cannot be directly installed using the Oracle Universal Installer GUI as in the 10g version of the product. We can use any of the following methods to deploy the agent on target nodes.

• Agent Pull method
• Agent Push method
• Agent clone.

This note shows us how to deploy the agent from the EM Grid Control interface.

From the Deployment tab in the EM Grid Console, click on Install Agent (under Agent Installation) and then Fresh Install.

Enter the following details :

• The host where we want to deploy the agent
• The OS user account and password on the target machine
• The top level path of the directory under which the ‘agent11g’ sub-directory will be created.
• Management Server registration password

    Hi Gavin

Thank you for your web site
I have also installed the 11g grid control and I have a few observation I am happy to share or discuss.

    1) You are right, there is a prerequisite java version “1.6.0_18?, this is a 2 step install 32 bit first and 64 bit then .
    Jdk 32 install

Download the jdk-6u18-solaris-sparc.tar.Z from K: and uncompress it in /tmp
    /tmp/zcat jdk-6u18-solaris-sparc.tar | tar -xf –

    become root
    pkgadd -d . SUNWj6rt SUNWj6dev SUNWj6cfg SUNWj6man SUNWj6dmo

Do you want to continue with the installation of [y,n,?] y
Do you want to continue with the installation of [y,n,?] y
Do you want to continue with the installation of [y,n,?] y

    Installation of was successful.

    Jdk64 install

Download zcat jdk-6u18-solaris-sparcv9.tar.Z from K: and uncompress it in /tmp
    Become root
    zcat jdk-6u18-solaris-sparcv9.tar | tar -xf –
    pkgadd -d . SUNWj6rtx SUNWj6dvx SUNWj6dmx

Do you want to continue with the installation of [y,n,?] y
    Installation of was successful

    3) Concerning the agent deployment, I do not share your point. I succeeded to install the agent by downloading the software on the monitored box and choose the silent install ( I suppose if the silent works the graphical will work too)
Only 4 parameters to change. Very easy to use for the sparc boxes , less clear for the Intel solaris but working too.

    4) I also patched the weblogic 10.3.2 (askked the patch at Oracle as could ‘nt find it on the website from Oracle
    Patching Weblogic
Download and Unzip patch.zip in /tmp

    /opt/oracle/product/wlserver_10.3/common/bin :->. commEnv.sh
    to set the env.

    /opt/oracle/product/utils/bsu :->./bsu.sh -prod_dir=$BEA_HOME/wlserver_10.3 -patchlist=WDJ7 -patch_download_dir=/tmp -verbose -install

    4) I have a question for you : How have you managed the High availibilty of you solution?

    regards
    philippe

Hi – thanks for the feedback – very useful info. Have you tried the GUI installer for the 11g agent? – let me know as from what I know only the silent option is there in 11g – regarding DR – have a read of this note in the Documents and Whitepapers section – applies to 10g ….”Note on setting up DR for the EM Grid Repository database and OMS”

I got confirmation from Oracle that OUI is not a ‘supported’ method of installing the 11g agent in the hosts.

    Thanks for this blog Gavin
